Soft Encounters is an experimental project and installation that combines the design and fabrication of soft-moving sculptures like soft robots made from flexible silicone. The project focuses on materiality and on the investigation of shapeshifting physical boundaries of soft materials through inflation and deflation and the possibility of human-robot encounters. Soft robots can exercise their social, ecological and vital agency by shapeshifting their physical boundaries to respond to touch, movement, or other external stimuli.
Marisa Satsia, born in 1990 in Nicosia, Cyprus, is a multidisciplinary artist and researcher specialising in medical and biological arts, focusing on Bioart and Biodesign. Based in Nicosia, she maintains an art studio that functions as a hybrid space, combining her artistic vision with a DIY laboratory for experimental research. In her work, she embraces experimentation, non-conformity, and risk-taking, pushing the boundaries between biology, technology, and art and design. Her research interests range from molecular gastronomy to soft robotics and DIY Biology.
