The artist will make two large tubular flags (wind socks) for the biennale site. Made from hi-visibility clothing & other urban flotsam, the soft dancing forms will be installed outdoors; the aesthetic quality of SERVICE SOCKS talks to a collective sense of urgency. Flags are objects of nationalism & colonisation; the artist’s circular flags will be a reaction against that notion, an attempt to undermine authority & territorialism by taking what is found on the street & raising it high, changing our relationship with waste & with the flag as a symbol of power.
Emma Lewis-Jones, born in 1994 in Nottingham, England, has lived and worked in Glasgow, Scotland, since moving there to study for a Master's in Fine Art: Performance at the Glasgow School of Art in 2021. She works in performance and installation. Her practice is informed by identity and somatics. She employs an anarcha-feminist philosophy. She is socially engaged, and her working style is often site-responsive – taking shape as empathetic offerings to (sometimes unsuspecting) audiences.

Umetnica bo izdelala dve veliki valjasti zastavi, vetrovnici. Mehke, plesoče oblike, narejene iz tkanin in urbanih odpadkov, bodo nameščene na prostem; estetska kakovost SERVISNIH VETROVNIC bo pričevala o kolektivnem občutku nujnosti. Zastave so predmet nacionalizma in kolonizacije; umetničine valjaste zastave pa predstavljajo reakcijo proti tem idejam, poskus spodkopavanja avtoritete in teritorializma z uporabo tega, kar najdemo na ulici, z njihovim dvigovanjem v višino, pa tudi poskus spreminjanja našega odnosa do odpadkov in zastav kot simbolov moči.
Emma Lewis-Jones, rojena leta 1994 v Nottinghamu v Angliji, živi in dela v Glasgowu na Škotskem, kamor se je leta 2021 preselila zaradi magistrskega študija likovne umetnosti: performansa na Šoli za umetnost. Deluje na področju performansa in instalacije. Osnovi njenega umetniškega dela sta identiteta in somatika, njen zorni kot je anarhofeministična filozofija. Je družbeno angažirana, njeno delo se pogosto odziva na lokacijo, oblikuje se kot empatično darovanje (včasih nič hudega slutečemu) občinstvu.
