To be, to fill a space, to be made up of matter has consequences; feeling the force of gravity is one of them. If you close your eyes and concentrate, you can visualise the force that keeps you stuck to the ground, and that wants to sink you. You are struggling to stand up and keep your shape. There are days when you feel as if that weight increases, and your arms, body, and legs are so heavy that you cannot move, and movement becomes an elusive dream.

Irene Gordillo, born in 1995, lives and works in Madrid, Spain. An engineer by training, she discovered photography in 2020 during COVID-19 confinement. Isolated in a small flat of 20 m2 without natural light, she embarked on her photographic journey through self-portraits and a deep exploration of the space surrounding her. And that’s how photography made its way, as a landscape, a window to the world, a breath of fresh air, and a catalyst for emotions. Since then, she trained in Madrid, merging logic and creativity in a unique visual approach that defines her work.
